Gloucester City – On May 30, 2020, at the age of 69. Loving husband of 30 years to Joanne E. Underwood (nee Bogner). Loving father of Charles L. Vandergrift (Mark) and Richard Carey (Patrice). Cherished grandpop of “Pots and Pans” Richard. Beloved brother of Thomas (Pat), Harry (Maureen), Phil (Betty), Jane Ellen (Bob) and Lou (Sharon). Predeceased by his brother, James. Also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews, Josh (Loretta), Sean (Jen), Beth (Dan), PJ (Becky) Courtney ( Josh) Crystal (Corey), Tim (Bobbie Joe), Theresa, Harry, Maddie, Krystal, Chalie, Frankie.

Richard was a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School class of 1968. He worked 32 years as a tech for Verizon Telephone in Gloucester City and Penns Grove. Richard was a member of The Gloucester City Sportsmen A.C. for 25 years, SJ Pigeon Assoc. for 54 years and Memorial Athletic Association for 20 years.

Due to Governor Murphy’s Executive Order, Rich’s viewing will be held privately for his immediate family. His funeral service will be streamed on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 11 AM on McCann-Healey Funeral Home Facebook page. Interment will be private in New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the American Cancer Society, Diabetes Foundation and Infectious Disease Center.
