On June 26, 2020. Age 67. Born in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late Harry and Jane (Hanson) Underwood. Beloved husband of 35 years to Patricia (nee Brady); loving father of Sean Underwood (Jen); grandfather of Jacob Underwood;
Predeceased by his brothers, Rich (Joanne), James (Kathy). Dear brother of Harry (Maureen), Phil (Betty), Jane Ellen (Bob), Lou (Sharon). Loving Brother-In-law of the late James Brady (Polly), Jack Brady (Barb) and Joseph Brady (Maureen). Dear Uncle of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, Uncle Drosselmeyer to Theresa and their many friends who also called Tom "Uncle."
Tom was raised in Gloucester City and a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1972 to 1974. Tom worked as a driver for UPS in Lawnside for 30 years. He enjoyed his retirement in Key West, summers in North Wildwood and holidays and weekends in Connecticut. Tom enjoyed his daily newspapers and crosswords, lunches with his UPS buddies, late night board games and cards with Sean and his nieces, and happy hours with friends and family. He loved going to the beach and boardwalk with his grandson Jacob and his many great nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Theresa and Tom, Beth and Dan for their love and nursing care. Thank you to his friend Dave in Key West for taking care of his beloved pets.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to John’s visitation on Wednesday, July 1st from 10 am to 11 am at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:15 am in the church.
Burial with U.S. Army Military Honors will follow in the New Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ. Please wear face masks in church and at the cemetery. Mass will be Live-Streamed on St. Mary’s Church Gloucester City Facebook Page.
