Gloucester City Ends Contract with Trash Collector
Tuesday, June 30, 2020
(Gloucester City, NJ)(June 30, 2020)--Statement from Mayor Spencer on the Collection and Disposal of Solid Waste and Recycling in Gloucester City.
Effective June 30, 2020, the City of Gloucester City has effectively concluded its contractual relationship with Republic Trash Company. In order to be responsive to the needs of our City, I have directed the Administration immediately engage an emergency services contractor, effective July 1, 2020, and I expect a seamless transition. Moving forward in the short term, Solterra Recycling Solutions, Inc., formerly known as Central Jersey Waste & Recycling, Inc., located in Ewing Township, New Jersey, will provide all trash and recycling collection and disposal services throughout the City.
I have also directed, with the support of Common Council, that our City Attorney, Business Administrator and Director of Public Works craft new contract specifications designed to address specific needs of our resident in order to assure the maintenance of a proper level of service which our residents expect and deserve. A new bid solicitation for trash and recycling services will be issued shortly as required by law.
Most importantly, be assured that local government has listened to the voices within our Community. When change is warranted, action will be taken. Trash and recycling collection is an integral component of municipal services and the City has an affirmative obligation to carry out that service in an effective and efficient manner. Finally, I would like to thank the residents of Gloucester City for your patience and tolerance while we work through these difficult issues. As your Mayor, rest assured that along with Common Council, we are here to assist all City residents whenever the need arises.
