NJBIA Statement on New COVID-19 Response Laws to Assist NJ Businesses

NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka issued the following statement regarding the signing of several bills (S-2333, S-2338, S-2342, S-2353) into law today by Gov. Phil Murphy that will assist New Business news Jersey businesses during the COVID-19 response.

"As we continue to put the health and safety of all New Jersey residents first, we greatly appreciate Governor Murphy's swift action on these bills, which will begin to bring much-needed relief to New Jersey's businesses.
"Regarding bill S-2353, in particular, we thank Senator Cryan and Assemblywoman Quijano (D-20) for working with NJBIA and a host of other business groups to temporarily change the requirements of the WARN Act.
"With the signing of this bill, employers will avoid required layoff notification and severance requirements that would challenge the state's efforts to help businesses survive during this unprecedented crisis.
"As previously stated, New Jersey needs to be as prepared as possible to bounce back when the time is appropriate. Providing our businesses and nonprofits with necessary resources to stay afloat as we endure this crisis together is an essential step in our overall economic recovery."
