Alexander Charles Releases First Single Off Upcoming Album Fortune Cookies

Artist Announces a Portion of His Clothing Line Proceeds will go to COVID-19 Arts Aid PHL

Philadelphia, PA (April 17, 2020) - Local musician Alexander Charles is preparing to release his first full length album, Fortune Cookies, next month. The creation of Fortune Cookies is driven by a very influential event that occurred in Charles’s life in early 2019, which has allowed him to truly connect his life to his music. His first single, “All I Know”, was released today via United Masters and can now be found on all streaming platforms. “All I Know” is about escaping your everyday anxieties.  It was written on a rainy day where all he wanted to do was escape. It made perfect sense to have this be the first single released off of Fortune Cookies due to the fact we are all currently confined at home due to COVID-19.

In addition to his upcoming album release, Alexander Charles has designed a sophisticated merchandise line for Fortune Cookies.  Charles uses his musical works to fuel the creative designs for his merchandise, generating clothing items that mirror his journey as well. His recently launched “Fortune Cookie Collection” is only available for a limited time and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to COVID-19 Arts Aid PHL.  The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE), the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance (GPCA), and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund (PCF) have partnered to create the COVID-19 Arts Aid PHL, a new emergency support fund focused on the arts and culture sector.

Fortune Cookies is more than just an album to Alexander Charles; this work portrays his journey of exploration and discovery this past year. Having been adopted at a young age, Charles only recently found out who his biological family is. This discovery has given Charles the opportunity to learn about his Asian heritage which fueled this new album. Always possessing a love for creating music, Charles wrote his first album when he was just 15 years old. From there, he attended Temple University and formed a group called Ground Up. The group was able to jumpstart their career by touring the country on numerous occasions and getting the opportunity to work with artists like G-Eazy and Action Bronson. With this experience in the music industry, Charles was able to start his solo career and embark on his new musical journey. Now focusing on Fortune Cookies, Charles is excited to bring more asian representation to pop culture and share his unique journey full of everything from addictions and demons to love and joy. The album will also feature guest appearances by Chill Moody, Malakai of Ground Up, Asher Roth, Shawn Smith, Suzanne Sheer, and Bij Lincs.

“I’ve been working on this project my entire life,” says Charles.   “This album is about me. All the good and all the bad. It’s about where I’ve been, who I thought I was.  But more importantly, it's about where I’m headed and who I hope to become.”
