Moby-Dick Marathon Reading, Maritime Carving and More This Month at ISM


"Call me Ishmael..."

Climb aboard the Pequod (aka Schooner Diligence) this coming weekend with ISM and The Rosenbach for our second annual Moby-Dick Marathon Reading!

Join us as we read Herman Melville's entire novel over a 25-hour period, starting on Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m. and reading through Sunday, November 10 at 3 p.m. Celebrate the iconic novel and the adventures of 19th-century seafarers with live readings, a whaling artifact show-and-tell, hands-on activities for all ages, boatloads of food and fare for purchase, a late-night happy hour, and much more.

Spotlight on: PARADE OF LIGHTS
Hosted by CBS3 anchor Jan Carabeo, Parade of Lights returns on Saturday, December 7 from 1-6 p.m. - a favorite annual holiday event at Independence Seaport Museum. After an afternoon of fun, a parade of local working boats will take to the river illuminated in lights for all to see at 5:30 p.m.
Spend your afternoon climbing aboard National Historic Landmark ships Cruiser
Olympia and Submarine Becuna as well as "foto"-graphing FLOW before the activities start at 3 p.m. Make your own monkeyfist and decorate a gingerbread boat* in Santa's Workshop on the Water, learn about fractals and take home your own fractal tree in River Alive!, and so much more. Be on the lookout for Santa and Jingle Jack, who will spread holiday cheer!
