WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP NJ--John M. Szymanski (DOB 05/01/1978) of Washington Township, NJ, was arrested on October 1, 2019, and charged with one count of attempted sexual assault (2nd Degree), one count of luring (2nd Degree) and one count of attempted criminal sexual contact (4th Degree),
Gloucester County Prosecutor Charles Fiore announced.
On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, a detective from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office (GCPO) High-Tech Crimes Unit had online communications with Szymanski utilizing a dating application. Szymanski believed he was talking with a 14-year-old male and suggested meeting with the fictional teen to perform sexual acts.
On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, Szymanski arranged to meet the fictional teen in West Deptford and drive him back to his house to perform sexual acts. When Szymanski arrived to pick up the fictional teen, detectives from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and West Deptford Township Police Department arrested Szymanski.
Szymanski was transported to the West Deptford Township Police Department, where he was processed and subsequently lodged in the Salem County Jail on the strength of a complaint-warrant, pending a detention hearing.
Detectives from the GCPO High-Tech Crimes Unit were assisted by the West Deptford Township Police Department and the GCPO Entry Team.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of their rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State Law.
