Pennsylvania Tax Revenues 5th Highest in the Nation; NJ Tax Revenues 7th Highest

State tax revenues in Pennsylvania amount to $38.4 billion, the fifth highest tally among the 50 states, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Census Bureau reported that property tax revenues in the state totaled 6a00d8341bf7d953ef0192abded29b970d-800wi $43.4 million; sales and gross receipts taxes, $20.2 billion; license fees, $2.2 billion; and income taxes, $14.4 billion.

The numbers do not include taxes levied by local governments, which in some cases determine property tax levels, according to the study.

Under the Census Bureau’s definitions, the phrase “state government” means the executive, legislative and judicial branches, as well as agencies, panels and public bodies that are somewhat autonomous from the state.
