GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (October 10, 2019)----The Gloucester City Police Department recently received a donation from Conrail to be used for purchasing safety equipment. John Higgins, superintendent of Conrail's South Jersey Terminal presented the check to Gloucester City Police Chief Brian Morrell (center) and Lt. Steve Burkhardt. The money will be used to purchase three armor tactical boxes for vehicles that respond to major incidents in the community. Higgins said Gloucester City PD was chosen because Conrail moves multiple trains through downtown Gloucester City traveling over 11 road crossings on a daily basis.
Higgins said, "Conrail has always had a good working relationship with the GCPD and we wanted to gift them this donation as a token of our appreciation."
Chief Morrell said, "The financial gift from Conrail was used for the purchase of emergency response equipment. The department was able to buy three secure lockers to be installed in our patrol supervisor’s vehicles. The lockers will contain the tools and equipment used to establish incident command posts during major incidents as well as process traffic crash and crime scenes. We would like to thank Conrail and Superintendent Higgins for considering our department for this gift as well as their continued support of our public safety mission."
