CAMDEN CITY, NJ--Officials from Camden County, City, and Camden-based organizations gathered outside the Police Administration Building on Federal Street as it was dedicated earlier this month to the department’s first chief, J. Scott Thomson. Thomson guided the Department’s transition from city to county control in 2013, becoming a nationally lauded leader in community policing as the city’s crime rate plummeted to record lows. Thomson retired at the end of August after 25 years of serving the city and county. (source press release)

“Chief Thomson’s impact on the city of Camden is only matched by his impact as a leader on his colleagues at the Camden County Police Department,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr., said. “This dedication is not only a memorialization of his achievements in crime reduction and community policing, it is a reminder for those who continue to serve to embody his same values, integrity, and commitment.” See Photos.
