Vineland's Compass Academy Achieves Success

Vineland, New JerseyThe American Association of Educators, an Good Newsorganization that routinely highlights educational success stories, featured Compass Academy Charter School in the latest edition of its     Charter Spotlight. It is the second time in a month that this top tier-ranked charter school has been recognized by the media. The school was also featured on Quinn Broadcasting’s program Around South Jersey linked here.

Both pieces focus on the school’s innovative approach, known as the Let Me Learn Process®, a program that allows both leadership and teachers to help students develop a stronger sense of self as learners, a greater degree of academic achievement, and a healthy lifestyle for learning. This fosters a learning environment of acceptance, appreciation, respect, and collaboration at Compass Academy Charter School.

Charter Spotlight notes that the New Jersey Department of Education recognized Compass Academy for achieving a top tier 1 rank by demonstrating strong PARCC results, strong student academic growth, and strong financial viability. “We may be the second-worst funded charter school in the state,” Chief School Administrator Susan Lewis observes, “but that does not deter us from keeping our mission and vision in the forefront.”

Another element that makes Compass Academy different is its service to community. Every year, each grade engages in at least one “service learning project” to help those in need. Projects range from reading books to seniors at Greenfield Senior Assisted Living Center, to making treats for animals at the Cumberland County SPCA, to picking up trash at local city parks. “The goal is to teach our children that small hands working together make a big difference,” shares Little.

Student success is vital to the health of the local community, and residents of Vineland, Millville and Pittsgrove can look forward to the students of Compass Academy Charter School contributing to the community as responsible citizens. And next year, it may start even earlier.

The school has announced plans to start its first Pre-K program. “We are excited to begin our student experience with 4-year-olds in the fall of 2020,” explains Little.

“We know that early education is a foundation for success and starting local children even sooner will reveal their best achievements a bit earlier.” Visit compassacademycharter.org to learn more about the school and its programs.
