NJ ALREADY USING NEW 'RED FLAG' GUN CONTROL LAW

Gov. Phil Murphy signed a so-called 'red flag' law into effect on September 1, and it's already having an impact. The measure enables law enforcement to confiscate an individual's guns if a judge determines that he is a threat to himself or others. The signal to the judge is waving that 'red flag.' Judges across the state have been approving these 'extreme risk protection order'requests fairly frequently — on average, more than once a day. (WHYY)

GOVERNOR'S TRIP TO INDIA RAISES FUNDING QUESTIONS

This week, Gov. Phil Murphy is on a trade trip in India. John Reitmeyer's write-up of who's funding this — and how — covers an organization called Choose New Jersey, which accepts contributions from certain groups between $10,000 4ef2ddad-68fe-4367-af9d-5f794a541b69 and $150,000. The group refused to answer questions from NJ Spotlight and isn't obligated to do so via the state Open Public Records Act. (NJ Spotlight)

NJ'S ALERT SYSTEM FOR THOSE WITH DISABILITIES UNUSED

This story by Amanda Hoover is really compelling and precisely reported. Over a couple of weeks last winter, one, two, then three men with intellectual disabilities went missing: each wandered alone in the cold, and ultimately died of hypothermia. Though the state has set up an alert system to aide in search and rescue efforts for vulnerable adults, these cases didn't qualify. (NJ.com)

MAYOR ASKED AT JFK: 'DID YOU MEET WITH TERRORISTS?'

Propsect Park's mayor, Mohamed Khairullah, was sworn in by Gov. Phil Murphy in January. He has held that post since 2006. For three difficult hours at JFK International Airport last month, he was treated as someone else entirely: a suspect. Shortly after landing in the U.S. after visiting his family in Turkey — with four young children in tow —  Khairullah, who is Muslim, was questioned by officials and ordered to give up his phone. "Everything that was going on there was a violation,” he told reporter Hannan Adely. (The Record)
