Gloucestercitynews.net--CAMDEN CITY, NJ--Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a homicide that occurred in the city. The Camden County Police Department was made aware of a ShotSpotter activation near the 1700 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue at approximately 12:50 a.m. When officers responded, they located the victim, Tyriq Smith, 20, of Camden, on the 1200 block of Sheridan Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tyriq Smith was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 1:08 a.m. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and there is no further information being released at this time. No arrests have been made at this time. Volunteer registration to close Sept. 2 DOVER (Aug. 27, 2019) – Volunteers are still needed and encouraged to join the 32nd annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup, to be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 14. Sponsored by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, the cleanup spans more than 45 sites in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties, including river and ocean shorelines, as well as wetland and watershed areas. Robert Lee Messick BELLMAWR NJ (August 298, 2019)--Former Chairman of the Camden County Democratic Party Robert Lee Messick of Bellmawr, NJ, died unexpectedly at home August 11th, 2019. He was 84. He was a practicing attorney for 55 years and solicitor for Bellmawr and Hi-Nella. He was born in 1935 and raised in Manasquan, NJ on the Jersey Shore. He was a basketball star at Manasquan High School and at the University of Delaware. He earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania before joining the Camden County District Attorney’s Office. Later, in private practice, he became active in Democratic politics, and was an influential chairman of the Democratic Party in Camden County from 1979-1986, when he worked closely with former Governor Jim Florio. LUMBERTON, NJ (Gloucestercitynews.net)--Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Burlington County corrections officer has been charged with stealing $6,365 that was raised to honor the memory of a colleague who died of cancer. Ann Inman, 36, of Lumberton, (photo)was charged with one count of Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property Received (Third Degree). She surrendered herself yesterday at the Burlington County courts facility in Mount Holly and was released after being processed. Inman, the former treasurer of the union representing Burlington County corrections officers, is accused of keeping the proceeds from a March 2017 fundraiser sponsored by the local chapter. The funds were supposed to be deposited into the union’s bank account and then, at the request of the widow, donated to the cancer center that treated her husband. NEW YORK (August 29, 2019) – Today, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), announced grants to Hudson River Park Friends and Rockaway Waterfront Alliance in New York and Groundwork Elizabeth in New Jersey. The three grants are among 46 Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program grants awarded this year, totaling $1.7 million to restore wildlife habitat and urban waters in 22 states and the District of Columbia. The report details how Comey handled seven memos he wrote between Jan. 6, 2017 and April 11, 2017, following interactions he had with Trump. The inspector general’s office determined that four of those memos contained information classified as “Secret” or “Confidential.” Comey, who was fired as FBI director on May 9, 2017, provided four of the memos to his personal attorneys after his ouster. EPA to hold public meeting on September 11 NEW YORK (August 27, 2019)(Gloucestercitynews.net) – Because levels of contamination in groundwater are falling naturally, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to amend part of its previous plan to clean up an area of the Lightman Drum Company Superfund site in Winslow Township, New Jersey. Adams, issued an advisory emphasizing the importance of protecting youth and pregnant women from the health risks of marijuana use. Marijuana, or cannabis, is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a component of marijuana, binds to receptors in the brain, producing euphoria and a variety of potentially harmful effects, including intoxication and memory and motor impairments. The area to reopen includes a stretch of ocean beach and dunes that was previously closed on March 1 to benefit more than 30 species of shorebirds including up to 11 species of terns, six species of gulls, the brown pelican, and the double-crested cormorant as well as threatened and endangered species such as red knots, piping plovers, least terns, oystercatchers, and others.
