Productive Ways To Spend Your Free Time

(Gloucestercitynews.net)(July 24, 2019)--While having free time is good, it can also be boring when you don’t have a whole lot to do or are unsure of how to fill your extra hours. Therefore, it’s in your best interest to find ways for how you can be more productive when you’re not busy working or catching up on your rest.

You’ll feel good knowing you’re actually getting stuff done and moving in a forward direction versus just sitting around watching television all the time. Keep in mind that just because your activities are considered productive doesn’t mean they also can’t be fun and enjoyable at the same time.

Go Back to School

One productive way to spend your free time is to go back to school and obtain a higher degree. There are even programs you can do from the comfort of your own home such as earning your masters degree in statistics online. You’ll be furthering your education and knowledge so that you can hopefully find an even better job or position in the near future. It’s healthy to always be learning and expanding your mind, so think of this as a way to gain a new perspective and skills in a particular subject matter. This is your opportunity to either switch careers or stick with what you’re doing and work on mastering it.

Find a New Hobby

Another productive way to spend your free time is to find a new hobby you can commit to doing. For example, learn how to build your own furniture or join an organized sports team and get some exercise. You’ll likely find you’re a lot happier when you’re putting your talents to use in your downtime and aren’t just sitting around letting your skills and abilities go to waste. Set goals and monitor how you’re doing so you can see what improvements you’ve made in certain areas. It’ll feel good to have projects outside of the office you’re working on and that help to keep you busy. Give one hobby a try and if it doesn’t work out, then know there are many other options to choose from that you should consider.

Organize Your Office Space

In addition, your office may be a mess because you’re always so busy working and don’t have a lot of time to take care of it. In your free time, consider organizing your office and files so you can find what you’re looking for more easily. You’ll appreciate coming to work and not having so much clutter to look at and deal with. You also won’t be as embarrassed to have visitors or clients in your office when it’s clean and nicely decorated. This is a great project to take on when you’re not busy working so that you don’t feel pressured to get it done quickly and can get it looking the way you prefer.

Clean & Update Your House

Your office may not be the only disorganized space in your life. It’s possible your home is the same way and could use some love and attention. Therefore, consider cleaning and updating your house as a way to be productive in your free time. There are certain projects you can easily take on yourself such as decluttering your belongings by getting rid of what you no longer need or want and adding a fresh coat of paint to your walls. Start with a few small and budget-friendly DIY projects and work your way to more difficult DIY tasks as you get more comfortable taking on these assignments. There are plenty of how-to videos out on the Internet to view if you’re having trouble or need some additional guidance.

Cook Meals

You can be more productive in your free time by choosing to cook healthy meals for the week. In fact, you might also look ahead of schedule and freeze some meals for the upcoming weeks or months if you know you’re going to be busy. Learning how to cook nutritious meals is beneficial to your health and will help you to feel better prepared for the days ahead. Use your free time to review new recipes you want to cook and then head to the grocery store to stock up on all the ingredients you’re going to need. Try to do as much prepping in advance as possible such as cutting and chopping so you can simply throw your meals together when the time comes.

Catch up with an Old Friend

If you work long hours then you may not have a whole lot of time for the important people who you care about and love. Building healthy relationships is good for you and an important part of life. Therefore, you can be more productive in your free time by catching up with an old friend who you don’t see often. Give them a call on the phone or plan to meet in person and fill one another in on what’s going on in each of your lives. This is a good opportunity to ask someone who you know and trust for advice on any pressing issues or problems you’re dealing with as well. You may even want to use your time together to be productive in the moment such as going shopping for clothes or running errands.

The truth is that having a lot of free time to fill is a blessing and a curse all at the same time. Too much of it may leave you feeling bored and unmotivated and too little might cause you to feel stressed out and anxious. However, it’s a wise idea to stay busy most of your days and to take breaks and rest when your mind and body calls for it. Use these ideas to help you stay productive outside of work when you have some extra time in your schedule. You’ll sleep more sound at night knowing you’re working hard and attending to important matters in your life versus feeling like you’re wasting precious time.
