45-Year-Old Sicklerville Resident Charged with Sexual Assault, Impersonating a Cop

 

SICKLERVILLE, NJ (Gloucestercitynews.net)--Samuel Mears Jr., 45, of Sicklerville in Gloucester Township, was charged with sexually assaulting a woman and posing as a law enforcement officer.

On July 28, 2019, a Camden County Police were approached by a 31-year-old woman who reported that a man, later identified as Samuel Mears Jr., allegedly brandished a police badge and a firearm and demanded the victim perform sexual acts on him inside of his vehicle.

Camden County police eventually located Mr. Mears operating his motor vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and placed Mr. Mears under arrest.

Samuel Mears Jr. was charged with first degree Sexual Assault on July 28, 2019, according to the Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson. He was also charged with Impersonating a Public Servant or Law Enforcement Officer, Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a weapon.

Mr. Mears Jr. was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. At this hearing, the court may order he be detained or released under Criminal Justice Reform.

The investigation into the matter is still ongoing and is being conducted by Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Mike Batista at (856) 456-0750.
