HAMILTON TOWNSHIP --(Gloucestercitynews.net)(June 6, 2019)--Saint Mary’s won the Non Parochial B State Title, Thursday night, defeating Gloucester Catholic the reigning two time champions at Veterans Park, Hamilton Township.
St. Mary's pitcher Kenny Quijano held the high scoring Rams to just 3 runs. The Rams, who were on a seven-game winning streak heading into Thursday's contest, had a tough time hitting Quijano who was clocked at 86 mph. Quijano, who pitched the entire game, struck several players out with his breaking ball. Over those seven games, the Rams had outscored their opponents 86-10.
Rams designated hitter Lillo Paxia got a double in the 2nd and scored on a bunt laid down by Luke Lesch. In the bottom of the inning St. Mary loaded the bases and scored four runs on two errors.
Top of the fourth, Lesch hit a home run with nobody on. With the score 4-2 St. Mary loaded the bases again. Coach Adam Tussey replaced starting pitcher Anthony Solometo with Tyler Parks who struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Top of the sixth Rams fought back but just couldn't get the job done. They left three men on. In the 7th inning Quijano struck out the next three hitters he faced and the game was over.
