Lower Township Police Officer Injured During Warrant Arrest

LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Gloucestercitynews.net)-(June, 3, 2019)--On May 31st 2019 at approximately 12:49 A.M. the Lower Township Police Department was dispatched to the Wawa convenience store, located in the Villas section of Lower Township, for a report of a disorderly person.
Responding officers arrived on scene and immediately made contact with several subjects. They quickly discovered that one subject had a warrant for his arrest out of Middle Township. The subject, identified as Robert G. Kassinger 29, of the Villas, was informed that he was under arrest for an outstanding warrant. He immediately fled on foot. The officers on scene pursued Mr. Kassinger quickly and were able to gain control and take him to the ground. Mr. Kassinger was arrested without further incident. During
A search, incident to arrest, of Mr. Kassinger revealed that he was in Possession of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance) Paraphernalia and in Possession of a Hypodermic Needle. Two knives were also found during the search.
Kassinger was charged with the following:
Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, 2C:12-1b (5) (a) 3rd Degree
Obstructing the Administration of Law, 2C:29-1 4th Degree
Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, 2C:39-5d 4th Degree
Certain Person, Weapon Prohibited, 2C:39-7a 4th Degree
Possession of Hypodermic Needle, a Disorderly Persons Offense
Possession of C.D.S. Paraphernalia, a Disorderly Persons Offense
Kassinger was transported to Lower Township Police Headquarters for processing. Once processed, he was transported to the Cape May County Correctional Facility, where he awaits further adjudication.
