Monday, June 03, 2019
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Gloucestercitynews)--June is Gun Safety Awareness Month and today June 2nd the Gloucester Township Police Department joins people nationally to raise awareness about gun violence and asks everyone to wear orange from now until June 7th. National Gun Violence Prevention Day is June 7th, and the concept of wearing orange was inspired by teens who asked their classmates to commemorate the life of their slain friend, Hadiya Pendleton. Hadiya marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade in 2013 and was shot and killed a week later in a park near her home in Chicago. June 2 is Hadiya’s birthday.
Gun violence impacts people at every corner of the nation. It is our duty to raise awareness and help keep our love ones safe. If you or a family have firearms they MUST be secured. The Gloucester Township Police Department offers FREE gun locks to secure firearms so that you can prevent tragedy. #NationalGunViolencePreventionDay #GunSafety #GTPD #LESM #3rdGearPolicing
