South Jersey Gas will be conducting a road repaving project in Avalon in advance of Memorial Day weekend. As expected, the utility has compromised the expansion of the Avalon Bicycle Path in the northern section of the community for new gas main installation, and the installation of Excess Pressure Valves. Instead of restoring the compromised areas, the entire bicycle path will be repaved on May 21st-23rd in advance of the holiday weekend; the path will be re-striped as well. Please be aware that this project will occur on these three days.
This is a temporary paving to provide a smoother driving and riding surface for the summer. During the third week of September, South Jersey Gas will return to Avalon to put the final pave and final re-striping of the bicycle path as the upgrades will be concluded by then. South Jersey gas will also conduct full or half width pavings of all streets that have been compromised during this safety and resiliency upgrade project, approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
No gas main or EVP installation will occur from Friday, May 24th through the entire summer.
