Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive May 11

Pennsauken, NJ – May 6, 2019 –The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) has partnered with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) for Stamp Out Hunger®, the country’s largest single-day food drive, on Saturday, May 11.
Food insecurity affects nearly 200,000 South Jersey residents. Local residents can support the FBSJ and the Drive by simply setting a bag of non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes or on their porches for their local letter carrier to pick up and deliver to the local hunger-relief organization.
“This amazing drive truly shows how a community can come together and have a profound impact on their neighbors in need,” said Fred Wasiak, President and CEO, Food Bank of South Jersey. “Many people do not realize that food insecurity is so close to home. “Nearly 12 percent of the population we serve in our four-county area has limited access to food.”
Local residents can also to Stamp Out Hunger and be a part of the nation’s largest one-day food drive by hosting a virtual food drive or giving online—a donation of just one dollar provides five meals. This year’s event sponsors include: Virtua, Aetna, Westmont Associates, Inc., ShopRite, RLS Logistics, State Farm, Dunkin’ Donuts, Jefferson Health and Inductotherm.
Stamp Out Hunger is a nationwide food drive held in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. It remains as important as ever, with many people facing economic struggles. Hunger affects about 50 million people around the country, including millions of children, senior citizens and veterans.
