Audubon Courts Reunion
Sunday, April 14, 2019
On Saturday night a Reunion of former players from the basketball courts in Audubon was held at the Kove in Audubon. The idea of bringing to together former High School, College and National Basketball Standouts who worked their skills on the legendary Courts was brainstorm of Carmine Calzonetti a Gloucester Catholic graduate.
In attendance were professional coach's, NBA Champions, players with NBA numbers retired, NCAA March madness winners and NCAA Coach of the year. Most in attendance where former High School State Champions. Players from Camden Catholic, Gloucester Catholic, Gloucester, Audubon, Merchantville, Bishop Eustace and other schools were New Jersey State Champions during the 1960 - 1969.
These State Champions challenged each other on warm spring and summer nights on the courts in 1960's. Audubon is where the concept of team play was instilled in all. If your team lost the winner stayed on the Court awaiting the NEXT and you sat and probably did not get back on the Court that night.
The concept of running the Courts came to an end in 1969 when Audubon built an addition to the High School, but as with anything new the memories of the past last forever.
