Mount Holly PD 44th Anniversary Memorial Held

 

Recognizing Fallen Officers Donald Aleshire, William Wurst and John Holmes

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ – Members of the Mount Holly Police Department held its 44th annual memorial IMG_4570ceremony recognizing a fateful day in Mt. Holly’s history and the lives of three fallen officers. The memorial commemorates the ultimate sacrifice that was made by Donald Aleshire, William Wurst and John Holmes.

 

On March 28, 1975, two police officers died and one officer was wounded and paralyzed at the hands of a sniper on Garden Street. Officer Donald Aleshire of the Mount Holly Police Department and Officer William Wurst of the Hainesport Police Department were both shot and killed at the scene. Officer John Holmes of the Mount Holly Police department was also wounded and paralyzed from the sniper’s bullets, and then died from his injuries 17 years later.
