Lower Township Police Arrest Suspect for Aggravated Assault in North Cape May


LOWER TOWNSHIP,NJ --On Sunday, March 24, at approximately 7:49 p.m., officers from the Lower Township Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call of an alleged assault that had just occurred at the 5 Screen Shot 2019-03-25 at 20.20.55West Pub in the North Cape May section of Lower Township.  Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, Nicholas DiCarlo, who stated that he had just been struck above his right eye, by an unknown white male in his 40’s wearing a green shirt, with an unknown object.  Mr. DiCarlo had sustained a serious injury to his head and was bleeding from a laceration just above his right eye.  His eye was swollen shut and he complained of blurred vision.

An initial search of the area and inside the Pub for the actor was unsuccessful.  The actor had apparently fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. 
The victim was treated on scene by Lower Township Rescue and later transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and medical care.
After further investigation, officers were able to ascertain the identity of the actor, David C. Hughes, 51, of North Cape May, N.J.  Officers of the Lower Township Police Department responded to the actor’s home where he was taken into custody.  Mr. Hughes was transported to Lower Township Police Department Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Aggravated Assault, Title 2C:12-1B(7), third degree.  Mr. Hughes was released on his own recognizance on a summons and is awaiting further adjudication in court.
