Egg Harbor Township Man Convicted of Murder

MAYS LANDING– Nicholas A. Abbati was convicted by an Atlantic County jury on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 for the murder of Jahlil Hunter, the attempted murder of Ebony Harris and for third degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
On Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 9:23 p.m., Pleasantville Police officers and emergency medical personnel responded to a 911 call at a home on the 100 block of Greenfield Avenue, Pleasantville for a report of two residents of the home that had been discovered inside incapacitated- both bleeding and suffering from significant physical trauma. The victims were identified as Jahlil Hunter, 30, and Ebony Harris, 22, both of the Greenfield Avenue Pleasantville residence.
Jahlil Hunter died on January 3, 2016, as a result of injuries sustained on December 23, 2015. The cause of death was determined by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner as multiple blunt force injuries to the head and the manner of death was homicide. Ebony Harris was in a coma for months and has sustained lifelong injuries.
Abbati, 30, is currently lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Sentencing is scheduled for May 10, 2019.
The State was represented by Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy and Assistant Prosecutor Deirdre Laws with the assistance of Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Investigators, Detectives Jason Dorn and Danielle Kratky. The investigation was led by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit with the assistance of the Pleasantville Police Department.
