NJ NEWS COMMONS: MURPHY TELLS AMAZON NJ IS 'OPEN FOR BUSINESS' FOR HQ2

 

On Friday, ROI-NJ reported that that New Jersey officials have been "courting" Amazon to set up shop in Newark "for some time", even after the company announced it would launch its second headquarters in Queens (and a suburb of Washington, D.C.). “We have reminded the folks there that we are still here,” Gov. Phil Murphy said on Monday. “And we really never stopped." Last week, the Washington Post suggested Amazon might be reconsidering its choice, yet The New York Times reported it has no plans of backing out. (NJ.com).

NJ UNVEILS SEVEN MORE APPRENTICESHIP GRANTS, $2.7M

At the Sansone Auto Mall on Route 1 on Monday, Gov. Phil Murphy released new details about the New Jersey Apprenticeship Network, which he said has led to 2,400 hires so far. Labor Commissioner Rob Asaro-Angelo announced seven grants on Monday totaling $2.7 million. The full list of recipients is here. (NJTV News)

CAMPBELL'S AWARDS $700K TO CAMDEN NEIGHBORHOOD

On Friday, Parkside Business and Community In Partnership, Inc. announced it has snagged a nearly $700,000 tax credit grant from the Campbell Soup Company, which is headquartered in Camden. The plan was approved by the state's Department of Community Affairs. The funds will go towards a major revitalization project in Camden's Parkside neighborhood. (TAPinto Camden)

MENENDEZ PUSHES FOR BILL TO GIVE BACK TO TAXPAYERS

On Monday, Sen. Bob Menendez announced the latest attempt to "Stop the Attack on Local Taxpayers" (SALT), a bill that seeks to eliminate the federal cap for deducting state and local tax (also SALT). Under the new law (for tax year 2018), the maximum SALT amount you can deduct is $10,000. (The Record)
