GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (February 5, 2019)--Today marks the 15 year anniversary of Trooper Bertram Zimmerman’s, end of watch. On behalf of everyone at the Gloucester Township Police Department we honor Trooper Bertram Zimmerman III for his service. On February 5, 2004, due to a recent series of robberies in the area, troopers were staking out a store when they spotted the suspects fleeing the scene of a robbery. Troopers then initiated a vehicle pursuit. While attempting to join the pursuit Trooper Zimmerman’s vehicle slid out control and struck a utility pole. The suspect was later apprehended and charged with robbery and felony murder in connection with Trooper Zimmerman's death. On May 31, 2006, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison along with an additional 20 years for the robberies.

He is survived by his wife Denise, his mother Verna and two sisters Andrea and Jamie. Along with his family Trooper Zimmerman is survived by the men and women in law enforcement, his brother and sister in blue. Although gone, you will never be forgotten
