WOODBURY NJ--Ten years ago, Degenhardt’s Restaurant, North Black Horse Pike, Mount
Ephraim, closed down after a two decades of serving meals to customers from the South Jersey, Philadelphia area.
On weekends the restaurant held a dance in the evening hosted by disc jockey’s like Jerry “The Geator” Blavat, Lou Costello and Billy from Philly.
Recently some of those patrons gathered at Nicholosi’s Catering in Woodbury to reminisce about the good times they had at those dances. Over 450 people attended the June 14, 2013 reunion.
One of those in attendance was Skip Zirbser.
“About 15 years ago Lou Costello and Billy from Philly helped me in finding my vintage 1963 Corvette," said Zirbser. "The day I purchased it I brought the car with me to Degenhardts and parked it nearthe entrance to the dance. Whenever I see either Lou or Billy they call me Corvette Skip. I still have that car, and brought it with me tonight. This particular corvette was built in June 1963, 50 years ago today. I can’t believe how fast the time has gone by. One thing that always brings a smile to my face is my memories of my wife and I dancing at Degenhardts,” he said.
