Authorities Charge Two Suspects for Murder of Julio Sanchez

CAMDEN CITY, NJ --Jose Vargas, 20, and Nelson Mescual, 26, both from Camden, were charged in connection with a shooting that killed Julio Sanchez-Moncada.
Camden County Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation near the 3100 block of Westfield Avenue in Camden on February 15, 2019, at approximately 10:42 a.m. When officers arrived they located the victim, Julio Sanchez-Moncada, 32, of Camden, on the 3100 block of Merriel Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
On February 26, 2019, Jose Vargas and Nelson Mescual were charged with first degree Murder, according to the Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson. Vargas and Mescual were also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Nelson Mescual is currently being held in a Camden County Correctional Facility.
Jose Vargas was arrested yesterday in Camden by the United States Marshals Task Force without incident and was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order he be detained or released with conditions.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
