Villas Resident Dies in Home Fire

Villas, NJ (January 5, 2019)- On Friday January 4, 2018, at approximately 6:45 a.m., Lower Township Police were dispatched to the 200 block of East Florida Avenue for a reported structure fire. Upon their arrival to the homeowner was already outside being attended to by neighbors, suffering from smoke inhalation and other minor injuries. Unfortunately, his wife did not make it out of the house. She was found in the upstairs bedroom likely overcome by smoke. The home did not have working smoke alarms.


 
The Villas Fire Department, with the help of Erma Fire and Town Bank Fire, quickly responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire. Lower Township Rescue was also on scene. The Cape May County Prosecutors Office and the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office were also at the scene.
 
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Cape May County Prosecutors Office and the Lower Township Police.
