William P. James, the former mayor of Gloucester City passed away suddenly on January 21, 2019, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden City. James was elected in 2006 to his first four-year term running on a ticket that included council candidates Nick Marchese and Jay Brophy under the banner "The James Gang".  Deputy Chief James retired from the Gloucester City Police Department in 2004 after 25 years of service. He was 62.
