FIRE TAKES THE LIFE OF A VILLAS RESIDENT

Villas, NJ (JANUARY 7, 2019) - On Friday, January 4, 2019, at approximately 6:45 a.m., Lower Township Police were dispatched to the 200 block of East Florida Avenue for a reported structure fire. Upon their arrival, the homeowner Joseph Murphy, was already
outside being attended to by neighbors, suffering from smoke inhalation and other minor injuries. Unfortunately, his wife Melody Murphy, did not make it out of the house and was found dead in the upstairs bedroom.  According to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner Office, her cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of the fire.

 


This is an ongoing investigation and the cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lower Township Police Department.
