GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (January 19, 2019)--If your dog enjoys snow there are a few things to remember to make Fido’s winter safe.
Long-haired breeds should not be shaved. The outer layer of fur protects him from heat and cold. With his winter coat he can safely be outdoors for an hour or so of supervised play.
Small breeds cannot withstand any extremes in temperature. A quick ‘in and out’ for potty breaks is a good rule of thumb. Please consider bundling him up for the trip.
Older dogs are temperature-sensitive. A quick walk twice a day will suffice when the weather is cold or there is ice or snow on the ground.
Never allow your dog to stay outside for long periods of time, either in summer or in winter. It is not only cruel it is illegal in many states, including New Jersey!
