MOUNT HOLLY - Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a man arrested for fatally shooting a fellow Burlington City resident late last year near the intersection of Barclay and York Streets has been indicted for the crime by a Grand Jury.
Thomas A. Thompson Jr., 39, was charged with Murder (First Degree), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree), and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons (Second Degree).
The indictment was returned yesterday and signed by Prosecutor Coffina. Thompson, who is being detained in the Burlington County Jail, will be scheduled for an arraignment in Superior Court in the near future.
The investigation revealed that Thompson approached a vehicle driving along Barclay Street on October 6 at approximately 1:30 a.m. and fired into the open window, striking Hubert Moore Jr., 37, who was a front-seat passenger. Moore, of York Street, was pronounced dead at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro about 30 minutes later. The driver, who was the only other occupant, was not injured.
Thompson was arrested two days later in Bordentown Township by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Unit and the U.S. Marshal’s Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Thompson is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Jamie Hutchinson.
The investigation is being conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office and the City of Burlington Police Department. The lead investigators are BCPO Detective Tom LaRosa and City of Burlington Detective Corporal Ann Czajka.
An indictment is merely an accusation. Defendants are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
