23-Year-Old Camden Man Sentenced to 47 Years in Prison for Murder

CAMDEN CITY, NJ (January 4, 2019)(GloucesterCityNews.net)--On January 3, 2019, Jacob Llera, 23, of Camden, was sentenced to 47 years in New Jersey State Prison for the murder of Saadiq Coleman by the Honorable Gwendolyn Blue of the New Jersey Superior Court. Llera is required to serve at least 37 years and 6 months of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

On October 25, 2018, Jacob Llera was found guilty by a jury of first-degree Murder, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

At trial, Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Spittal presented witness testimony, surveillance video, and photographs to establish that Jacob Llera shot and killed Saadiq Coleman.

On September 8, 2015, just before 8:30 p.m., two Camden County Police Department officers where in their marked patrol vehicle on the 300 block of Broadway in Camden when they heard several gunshots coming from the area of Broadway and Benson Streets.  Officers exited their vehicle and saw the victim, 19-year-old Saadiq Coleman, running towards them before he collapsed.  Saadiq Coleman, who had been shot multiple times, was rushed to Cooper University Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. During the investigation, detectives were able to place Jacob Llera at the scene during the time of the shooting, and were ultimately able to identify him as the shooter.

Jacob Llera was later taken into custody on September 16, 2015, in Philadelphia by members of the United States Marshals Service.

Released Friday, January 4, 2019.
