Letters to the Editor: To Friends and Supporters of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania

This week I was excited to be in Luzerne County where I was able to meet with Northeastern Pennsylvania Republican leaders and elected officials to let them know what we have been up to at State Committee.

I was also happy to congratulate new Luzerne County Republican Chairman Justin Behrens on his recent election. Justin has been a strong Republican candidate in the past and I look forward to working closely with him toward building on a strong Republican base in Luzerne County.

Also, this week, I had the pleasure to attend the White House holiday party where I was able to see the beautifully decorated building, hear from President Trump and the First Lady, and enjoy the company of Republican leaders and the President’s team.

I am also proud to support a great initiative advanced by President Trump this week: Economic Opportunity Zones.

Economic Opportunity Zones are a long-standing Republican concept first advanced by one of my personal political heroes, Jack Kemp.

Economic Opportunity Zones are designed to lift up neglected communities by encouraging investment in low-income communities as a means to fuel human potential in areas long left behind by policymakers.

First passed as a critical component of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, President Trump this week signed an Executive Order to further the Economic Opportunity Zones by creating a Council to work in a coordinated and collaborative way with local governments to target needed zones of investment.

I am also proud that PA GOP Southwestern Caucus Chairman and Allegheny County Councilman Sam DeMarco was in attendance to witness the signing of the Executive Order.

Until my next update, feel free to keep up with the latest by checking out the PA GOP website at www.pagop.org.
