Carol Lynn Rowen, Teacher of the Year Recipient; Taught in Glendora School District for 28 Years

Have you ever known a teacher who knew the names of every student she taught in second, third and fourth grades? Carol Rowen was that person. This beautiful teacher, wife, mother, grandmother and friend of so many, passed away on December 27, 2018. Born and raised in Runnemede, she resided in Washington Township from 1964 to the present date. She was 74 years old.

Carol had a special talent for teaching young children for 28 years at the Glendora School in Gloucester Township. She was awarded the prestigious “Teacher of the Year” award and touched the lives of literally hundreds of students and adults. Carol also taught Pre K-Kindergarten students in Sunday school at Trinity Lutheran Church in Runnemede. Carol graduated from Triton Regional High School in Runnemede in 1963. She attended and graduated from Glassboro State College in 1976, majoring in elementary education. She continued her education while teaching and obtained three master’s degrees.

She enjoyed a wide variety of activities, but especially enjoyed her summer home in Wildwood Crest. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, vacationing with her family and grandchildren. Carol was a member of the New Jersey Education Association, Camden County Retired Teachers Association, Glassboro State Alumni (now Rowan University) and a member since birth of Trinity Lutheran Church in Runnemede. She was the wife of the late Milton Rowen, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter Dr. Michelle Rowen and granddaughter, Emilee Schipske and Joseph Schipske. Her daughter Kimberly Smylie (Dean) and grandchildren, Carolyn (Beau), Hannah, Jacob of Douglas, WY. Carol had a sister Dorothy Mitchell and brother Ralph Stackhouse who preceded her in death. She was born to Ralph and Roberta Stackhouse of Runnemede.

Relatives and friends may come to the viewing on Monday morning from 8:45am to 10:45am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 E. Clements Bridge Road, Runnemede, NJ 08078.

Funeral service 11am at the church.

Entombment Locustwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Cherry Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church at the address above.
