Pemberton Man Indicted for Murder in 2017 Sunbury Village Shooting

 

MOUNT HOLLY - Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a 23-year-old Screen Shot 2017-10-22 at 12.47.14Pemberton Township resident has been indicted for fatally shooting a man in the Sunbury Village neighborhood early last year.

Douglas Lewis, of Fort Dix Road, was indicted on charges of Murder (First Degree), Conspiracy to Commit Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree), Aggravated Assault (Second Degree), Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons (Second Degree) and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree).

The indictment was returned yesterday and signed by Prosecutor Coffina. An arraignment will be scheduled soon in Superior Court. Lewis has been held in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly since his arrest in October 2018.

The investigation revealed that officers from the Pemberton Township Police Department were called to the 100 block of Kinsley Road on March 21, 2017 just before 9 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered Shaquille Williams, 24, inside of a vehicle with several gunshot wounds.

Williams, who lived in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case was investigated by detectives from the Pemberton Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit – Violent Crimes Section, and Crime Scene Unit. The lead investigators are BCPO MCU Detective Tony Luyber and Pemberton Township Police Detective Danielle Hann.

The case was presented to the Grand Jury by Assistant Prosecutor Bob VanGilst, supervisor of the BCPO Major Crimes Unit – Violent Crimes Section.
