The AARP Smart Driver class, offered by AARP Driver Safety, is the nation’s first and largest refresher course designed specifically for drivers age 50 and older. For more than 35 years, the course has taught over 16 million drivers proven safety strategies so they can continue driving safely for as long as possible. Courses in New Jersey are offered in English, Spanish and Chinese in a traditional classroom setting taught by AARP-trained volunteers, classes are also offered in English and Spanish for online course that may be taken from your home computer at your own pace.
The Smart Driver class will help you:
Receive a multi-year discount on your auto insurance
Refresh your driving skills and your knowledge of the rules — and hazards — of the road
Reduce your chances of receiving a traffic violation or getting into an accident
The Driver Safety class is recognized as an authorized defensive driving program by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Upon successful completion of this course, licensed drivers of All Ages may earn a two-point reduction and/or an auto insurance premium reduction. Please check with your insurance company or agent for any additional requirements for eligibility. Completion of this course cannot be used to reduce future points, and can only be credited once every five years.
After completing the course you’ll receive a certificate of completion that can be presented to your insurance agent for a possible reduction in your auto insurance premiums.

AARP membership is not required to take the course.
The classroom class is 6 hours which is usually completed in one or 2 days, it costs only $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. The cost for the online course is $19.95 for AARP members and $24.95 for nonmembers. Make sure to call and register to confirm your spot
