8 PM UPDATE--According to Police Chief Francis McKinney, the woman was the only person in the house. "To clear up the rumors. There was no children in the house. The woman did not have a weapon.  And, no one was harmed," said the chief.

BROOKLAWN NJ--Neighborhoods on the West side of Brooklawn were locked down today because of a woman living in the 200 block of Chestnut Avenue had threatened to hurt herself along with the two occupants in her home,  According to neighbors those occupants were children related to the woman.  Neighbors also said that police have responded to this house in the past because the woman has mental problems. 

 

A SWAT team, along with the Camden County Homeland Security Unit, the Camden County Office of Emergency Management, Camden County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, plus the Brooklawn Police, Gloucester City Police responded to the threat around 1 PM.  Shortly before 6 PM police entered the home and the situation was brought under control. 

 

We have not been able to confirm if there were children in the house. Nor have we been able to confirm whether or not the woman had a weapon. We spoke with Brooklawn Police Chief Francis McKinney, who said he would release a statement later.

The Brooklawn Police would like to thank the residents of Brooklawn for their cooperation and patience today with the incident on the 200 block of Chestnut St. No residents were in danger at any time, but precautions needed to be taken to safeguard all involved. 

We would also like to thank the Zone 5 Tactical Team and all other responding entities that assisted with today’s incident.
