AmeriHealth Caritas Proudly Joins Campaign to Raise Awareness About HIV on the 30th Anniversary of World AIDS Day...World AIDS Day - Saturday, December 1, 2018

Philadelphia, PA (November 2018) - On Saturday, December 1, 2018, Action Wellness will observe World AIDS Day in partnership with AmeriHealth Caritas.  As a part of their annual campaign “Action Heroes Wear Red”,  friends and allies are asked to wear red, or a red ribbon, on this day to raise awareness for World AIDS Day. This day is an opportunity for people to unite in the fight against HIV and to commemorate those who have died from AIDS-related illness.

Here’s how you can become an Action Hero:
Step 1: Put on your favorite red clothing item!
Step 2: Make a sign or write a caption about why you’re wearing red on World AIDS Day
Step 3: Take a picture with your red gear and your sign
(and don’t forget to sign the photo release here!)
Step 4: Email the photo to Fae Ehsan at fehsan@actionwellness.org by November 29, 2018.

World AIDS Day was founded in 1988 and is the first ever globally recognized health day.  There are an estimated 30,000 people  living with HIV in Philadelphia (2017) and an estimated 36.7 million people living with HIV globally (2017). Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.

“In the early days, Action Wellness was providing hospice care for people with HIV, helping them to die with dignity, and making sure they had access to care,” explains Action Wellness Executive Director Kevin Burns. “Today, thankfully, people with HIV can achieve wellness and that’s what our focus is on now: helping people access all of the services they need to live well with HIV disease and to have a normal life expectancy, as well as getting folks who don’t know their status in to be tested so that they can receive treatment. We’re proud of our Action Heroes Wear Red campaign which raises awareness about living with HIV and honors those we have lost.”
