VILLAS MAN RESISTS ARREST DURING A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT

VILLAS, NJ (October 29,2018)(CNBNewsnet)--On October 25th, 2018 at approximately 7:14 p.m. officers of the Lower Township Police Department responded to 899 Bayshore Road (Families Matter LLC.) in the Villas section of Lower Township for the report of a domestic violence incident. 


As officers were en route, the caller advised that the actor was still on scene and was kicking and punching the victim’s vehicle.  Upon arrival the officers located the actor, later identified as Shawn Harkin, a 31 year old, unemployed Villas resident.  Mr. Harkin was standing across the street from Families Mater LLC. as officers exited their patrol vehicles.

Police immediately made contact with Mr. Harkin who was uncooperative.  They advised Mr. Harkin that he was under arrest for a restraining order violation.  Mr. Harkin then fled the area on foot traveling south on Bayshore Road.  After a brief foot pursuit and struggle with Mr. Harkin he was apprehended and placed under arrest by members of the Lower Township Patrol Division. 

A  warrant was issued by Judge Thomas HIllegass charging Shawn Harkin with the following: Two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, in violation of Title 2C:12-1B(5)A, Resisting Arrest in violation of Title 2C:29-2A(3), Contempt in violation of Title 2C:29-9B, and possession of a Hypodermic Syringe in violation of Title 2C:36-6A.  At the conclusion of processing Mr. Harkin was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.
 
During the incident Patrol Officer Eric Danze and Special Officer Samuel Gellura sustained minor injuries and were treated and released from Cape Regional Medical Center.
