CAMDEN CITY, NJ (October 23, 2018)(CNBNewsnet)--Morton Newman and Nasir Mason were charged with Aggravated Manslaughter yesterday in the death of their friend, Diquese Young.

The three men were at Morton Newman’s residence on the 2500 block of Baird Boulevard on October 14, 2018, in Camden, when a gun they were handling discharged, striking Diquese Young in the head. Camden County Police were dispatched to the MD Anderson Cancer Center where the victim was brought instead of Cooper University Hospital, located across the street. Diquese Young died two days later from his gunshot wound.

Detectives found the weapon in Morton Newman’s residence, resulting in the charges of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. The Complaints and Probable Cause statements for Morton Newman and Nasir Mason are below.

Morton Newman and Nasir Mason are currently detained at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending their pretrial detention hearings, which are scheduled for Thursday, October 25, 2018, in front of the Honorable Edward McBride, J.S.C. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order they be detained or released with conditions.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
