Obituary: Liberty Hodges Jr., owner of Whippel Wheel Restaurant/Club, Lawnside

On September 25, 2018. Born in Eureka, NC, he was the son of the late Liberty Hodges, Sr. and Arttie (Taylor) Hodges. Liberty is survived by his sons, Kenneth R. Mickens, Sr.(Diane), Gerald T. Pringle (Nija), Darryl Pringle; brother, William H. Hodges; sisters, Carrie Williams, Elnora Newsome, Geraldine Moyer, Dorothy Artist, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Liberty was predeceased by his brother, A.D. Hodges and sister, Marie Woodard.

 

Liberty owned and operated the Whippel Wheel Restaurant / Club in Lawnside, NJ for many years. His love of barbecuing made him famous for his BBQ ribs. He also built several homes in Lawnside, NJ. Liberty loved to debate with his sons about the Eagle vs the Cowboys, and he enjoyed traveling to North Carolina to visit with his brothers and sisters.

 

Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday October 9th at 11 am at Grace Temple Baptist Church, 15 East Charleston Avenue, Lawnside, NJ, where family and friends are invited from 9 to 11 am. Burial will following at the chapel in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ, promptly at 2:30 pm.
