Dr. Helene Burns, Chief Nurse Executive at Jefferson Health is lead author of Cover Story for Nursing Management Magazine

Voorhees, NJ, October 10, 2018 – Helene Burns, DPN, RN, NEA, Vice President of Clinical Services & Chief Nurse Executive of Jefferson in New Jersey, is the lead author of the October cover story for Nursing Managementthe Journal of Excellence in Nursing Leadership.
 
The article written by Burns, who recently oversaw Jefferson – New Jersey’s successful journey to Magnet® designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center is titled “The CNO’s Role in a Healthy Work Environment.”
 
The cover story focuses on the value of a Healthy Work Environment (HWE) in the hospital setting and how Chief Nursing Officers can provide leadership in the development and fostering of a HWE for clinical nurses. The research article was Burns’ Doctor in Nursing Practice project, in which she surveyed Chief Nursing Officers throughout New Jersey to determine their priorities in developing and maintaining a Healthy Work Environment. The co-authors served as her project approval committee.
 
Burns, who is on the Board of Directors of the Organization of Nurse Leaders – New Jersey (ONL NJ), holds a Doctor in Nursing Practice degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. A member of the Jefferson Health – NJ leadership team (formerly Kennedy Health) since 2008, she has played a leading role in the development of many successful programs and designations, including NICHE Exemplar Designation for all three Jefferson – NJ hospital locations for their commitment to elder care; and Gold-Plus status as part of the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines program for exceptional stroke care.
 
Named one of the New Jersey Institute of Nursing’s “Divas and Dons” in 2012 for her extraordinary impact on the nursing profession and in the community, Burns has championed many key initiatives linked with both patient and employee satisfaction.
 
Along with her doctorate, Burns holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and a Master of Science in nursing degree from Widener University and is a board-certified Nurse Executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She resides in Berlin, NJ, with her husband.
