WESTVILLE NJ (September 15, 2018)(Courier Post)- A blown-out tire led to a quick-moving bus fire that quickly consumed the vehicle Thursday morning, officials said.

The driver was the only person on board, and no one was injured, said Debra Sellitto, spokesperson for Gloucester County.

The owner of the Piston Diner might have been the first to notice the bus stopped in front of his restaurant was in trouble.

"Move to the other side!" he shouted to the bus driver, the only person aboard the vehicle. "There's a fire!"

Dervis Akturk called 911 from outside his diner on Crown Point Road as smoke poured from the bottom of the bus, eventually enveloping the whole vehicle and extending into the sky.

The blowout started a fire in the driver-side rear wheel well, Sellitto said. The bus driver slowed and moved into a position that would not cause any damage to nearby homes, she added.

Despite the smoke, the driver bent down near the bus, apparently trying to get a look at what was wrong, Akturk said.
