Retired New Jersey State Trooper Joseph G. Vespe, Sr. of Stratford Succumbs at Age 88

Joseph G. “Buddy” Vespe, Sr., (photo) age 88, of Stratford, NJ, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2018.

Buddy graduated from Camden High School in 1948, the New Jersey State Police Academy in 1955 and Glassboro State College (Rowan) in 1977.

He was a trooper in the New Jersey State Police for 30 years and retired as a Captain in 1985.

Buddy’s favorite activities were watching his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic events. He was an avid supporter of the Sterling Silver Knights and enjoyed many years as a great fan.

He also thrived on keeping in shape by walking all over the streets of Stratford. Many fondly knew him as “the walker.”

Buddy was a respected, generous man with an undeniable love for his family.

Beloved husband of 65 years to Eleanor (nee Laxton). Devoted father to Joseph, Jr. (Diana), Kelly Piatek (the late Greg) and Dennis (Patty). Caring grandfather of Jennifer (Sam), Gregory, Ryan (Allie), Lindsay (AJ), Kelsey and DJ. Great grandfather to Gianna, Vincenzo, Riley, Michael, Sammy and Lexi. Dear brother to Agnes Mullen (the late Joe), Vincent (Mirtha) and the late Mary Anderson (Bob) and Carolyn Farren (David). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 9:30am to 11:45am Friday morning at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, St. Luke RC Church, 55 Warwick Road, Stratford, NJ 08084.

Funeral Mass 12 noon in church.

Entombment Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Cherry Hill.

Family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Buddy’s name to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at the address above.
