West Deptford Junior Police Academy Class Graduation Ceremony Held

(West Deptford, NJ)(August 2018)(CNBNewsnet)Gloucester County Freeholder Jefferson addressed the graduates from the fifth class of the West Deptford Junior Police Academy at the Riverwinds Community Center in West Deptford on Aug 3. 

The West Deptford Junior Police Academy is designed to show residents in sixth through eighth grade what it's like to be a police officer through daily activities including drill work, mock robberies, and a test similar to the one given at the police academy.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, "The Junior Police Academy is a great opportunity for our younger residents to undergo a variety of experiences that come with being a police officer or training to be one while also engaging in fun activities like dodgeball and dance competitions."

Students were also treated to presentations from a variety of law enforcement and other officials including Sgt. Robinson of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crimes Unit, the WDPD K-9 Unit, Fire Marshall Austin and members of the Thorofare Fire Department, members of the Gloucester County SWAT team, Det. Danze and Det. Barquero of the GCPO CSI Unit, Gloucester County EMS, and many others.

Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, said, “The basic class’s group of cadets graduated with information on what it’s like to be a police officer, and an assortment of important life skills including self-defense, life-saving techniques, internet safety, and many more.”
