(CNBNewsnet)--A website is of course a major contributing factor when it comes to your online presence, so whatever you do – you want to make sure that you do it right.  When developing your website, you should remember it’s the first thing people will see when they come across you online – so it’s important to make the right first impression. Here are some of the biggest mistakes you could make.

Not Have a Clear Call to Action

It’s all well and good having lots of people visit your site, but you want to make sure that they act once they get there.  You want them to contact you for more information to generate leads, so make sure there is a good data capture tool in there.  That way, as well as getting someone to get in touch with you – you will also have other details such as email, telephone number etc for future marketing.

Not Making it Mobile Responsive

Mobile responsiveness is essential to making your website user friendly, and in turn will result in better search engine rankings.  Not updating your website to ensure it easy to use on mobile devices is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. It’s not often easy to do by yourself, so you may want to consult a web design company in Bristol to take care of this for you if your website is currently outdated.

Forgetting to Include Social Media Integration

Whether we like it or not, social media is a big part of todays’ world – so it’s important that you let prospective clients know that you are a forward-thinking company, and that you have a social media presence.  Millennials buy into the personality of the company a lot more – so it’s great to show that off on the relevant social channels. Relevant updates on those social channels, can be integrated as part of your website design.

Not Showing off Who you are

What are your core values as a company?  That’s something that in the modern world are taking into account – and you should make sure that that’s reflected on your website as part of your design and content.  For example, if you are an eco-friendly company, you might like the colour green to feature heavily, if you do a lot for charity – you may want to ensure there is info on CSR on there.  Let people know who you are on your website.

Making the User Think

The trick is to never make the user think once they reach your website.  It should be easy to navigate your way through the website, so the user can find what they need to with ease.  If they can’t do that – what they might end up doing is clicking off site and going somewhere else.

There’s lots of things to consider when getting a new website, and therefore lots of things that can go wrong.  Hopefully by outlining some of the mistakes that are made will help you on your way to better web design choices.
