Bicyclist Hit by Van in Winslow Township; In Critical Condition

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP NJ (June 27, 2018)(CNBNewsnet)--Winslow Township Police were dispatched to Erial road in the area of Wiltons Landing Rd for a reported motor vehicle crash with a bicycle. Responding units located a 14 year old male who had been struck by a van traveling westbound on Erial Road.
Winslow Township officers provided medical attention and assisted Winslow EMS and Fire with stabilizing the juvenile until he was transported by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital, in critical condition. Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed a group of three juveniles were riding bicycles on Erial Rd westbound.
A 2009 Chevrolet cargo van was also traveling westbound on Erial Rd. The lead bicycle, for unknown reasons, entered the westbound lane of travel and was stuck by the Chevrolet cargo van. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. The motor vehicle crash is being investigated by the Winslow township highway Safety Unit. With school being out and the summer months upon us, the Winslow Township Highway Safety Unit would like to remind and stress the importance of wearing your bicycle helmet to both parents and kids.
Additionally residents are reminded, that it is NJ state law that all person 17 years and under must wear a bicycle helmet.
