South Jersey Transportation Authority Rolls Out the 2018 Edition of 100 Days of Summer

HAMMONTON, NJ - May 22, 2018 – The South Jersey Transportation Authority is pleased and proud to kick-off the 2018 summer season with its annual 100 Days of Summer event at the Farley Service Plaza on the Atlantic City Expressway (Milepost 21) Friday, May 25, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Highlighting the day for travelers on the Expressway will be eastbound toll-free passage from 5 – 6 p.m. at the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza courtesy of Chickie’s & Pete’s®, the Philadelphia-area sports bar and restaurant chain, which also is sending its Crabfries Express food truck to dole out free crabfries.

“We are always excited to hold our 100 Days of Summer event and hope visitors to Atlantic City and all the other beautiful vacation spots along the South Jersey shore will avail themselves of everything our service plaza has to offer while enjoying the convenience of taking the Expressway to their favorite destinations,” said SJTA Executive Director Stephen F. Dougherty.

WIP Sports Radio and WPHT 1210 Talk Radio will be there for live, remote broadcasts with their radio personalities on hand to give out prizes to lucky winners. Restaurateur HMSHost, operator of Farley Service Plaza, will have its Road Hog BBQ food truck ready and open for business selling the smells, tastes and temptations of another Jersey summer. Starbucks®, Hershey’s®Ice Cream and The Fresh Attractions outlets at the service plaza will be giving out free samples while Coke’s Monster Energy Drink® will be available to help invigorate the crowd.

Ron’s Gardens of Hammonton also returns to the Farley Service plaza with regular hours during the entire summer offering a wide variety of JERSEY FRESH® produce, fruits and garden plants in season, a favorite among shore-bound travelers, especially those spending vacation time at their summer homes or rentals.

The New Jersey State Police is expected to land one of their helicopters at 12:30 p.m. and will bring other rescue equipment for kids of all ages to checkout while the Atlantic City International Airport Fire Department will display and demonstrate some of its safety apparatus used to keep the public safe at the airport and in surrounding communities.

Youngsters will also enjoy the chance to visit ambassadors from the Funny Farm, an animal rescue sanctuary that provides a home for unwanted farm and zoo animals. Among those making a guest appearance will be:  Hollywood, the Goat; Adele, the Chicken; Brooklyn, the Golden Retriever and possibly, Stinky, the Skunk among others.

With so many golf courses within easy driving distance of the Atlantic City Expressway, the Greater Atlantic City Golf Association and Golf’n Gamble.com will be there to promote the many fine courses in the area and to offer visitors the chance to win a free overnight golf trip.

The Philadelphia Soul®, 2016 and 2017 Arena Football Champions, are confirmed to make an appearance and will be represented by several cheerleaders and a giant 30-foot inflatable mascot, worthy of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Other area organizations expected to participate include the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City, Atlantic County Utilities, the Atlantic County Departments of Aging, Administrative Services and Aging; Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Atlantic County; Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic County; Cape May County Chamber of Commerce; Xfinity and the Atlantic City Expressway’s REAdI (Roadway Environmental Advancement Initiative) and other South Jersey organizations.

While at the 100 Days of Summer celebration, visitors are encouraged to check out the Farley Plaza’s 9/11 memorial and the 22-foot brass replica of the Battleship New Jersey built on a 1/48 scale. Travelers will find Farley Plaza at mile post 21.3, nestled between the east and westbound lanes of the Expressway in a parklike setting.

The fun starts early and is open to the public headed to their favorite South Jersey vacation spot. Make plans to stop and enjoy another 100 Days of Summer!
